Hampton Academy students Sam and Jack from Year 9 were invited to report on the London Broncos community match day event- The Purdham Cup. London Rugby League development officers had seen the impressive work of our New Team and invited Sam and Jack to the Twickenham Stoop to cover the mini Rugby League event.

Below is Jack's thoughts about their great day
On the 21st July, Samuel and I
travelled to the Stoop Rugby ground in Twickenham, to cover the Purdham Cup for
the RFL. The Purdham Cup is a mini Rugby League festival for London’s under7s,
9s, and 11s teams. Twenty four teams from around the region arrived at the
Stoop for an action packed community event before the London Broncos v Wigan
Warriors Super League match.
The day started at around 10 o’clock, when
the first game kicked off. There was a very high standard of Rugby league being
played, and some really good pieces of play. Samuel and I were granted access
onto all of the pitches, and we were allowed to take pictures and get some good
footage of all of the games. There were under 7s, 9s and 11s league tables, and
they were all very close.
As the day went on, there were some very
big scoring games that took place, and the Medway Dragons teams were all
looking very strong. Mr Giblin was running two of the pitches, and blew the air
horn before and after every game to signal the start and finish of the matches.
The games went on, and finally we reached
the semi finals, where there would be some very high scoring games. One game
ended 16-12, and since the games were only 8 minutes long, that’s very
impressive!
Eventually we reached the Finals, where
Medway Dragons would win the under 11s, and Sussex Merlins would win the under
9s. A big thank you to the RFL and the London RL for inviting us to report on
the event.
